1.  GEORGE H.1 AMERY.  He married KATE COCKRELL, daughter of CHARLES COCKRELL and EMMA WILSON.

Short Biography of

George Henry Amery

 

 

Born in 1888 in Anaqua (Victoria County), Texas. His parents had arrived in this country through the port of Indianola Texas. 

 

In his early youth, George Amery was a surveyor/construction engineer for several railroads in Texas, Arkansas, Louisiana, and Florida.   While surveying for the Florida East Coast Railroad, he lived with the Seminole Indians.

 

At the outbreak of World War I George enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in France.

 

After the great war, George became an Oilman but was badly damaged

by the depression.

 

In later years, George and Kate owned a ranch near Austin, Texas.   The ranch was situated near Marshall Ford Dam and consisted of approximately 320 acres. George raised a few cows on this ranch, along with Corn (in the bottom field), maze, wheat and vegetables.  Two large chicken houses were built and chickens were raised for the Swift corporation.  An experiment in raising Turkeys proved disasterous as they caught a disease and died by the hundreds.

 

George Henry Amery died 1n 1962 in Austin.

George Amery served in the U.S. Army during World War I.  He fought in France,

and Germany.
